Indianapolis—
Sunday's tragedy reminds many of us of a similar situation back in July 2008, when another IMPD officer was shot in the head while on duty.Officer Jason Fishburn was shot while chasing murder suspect Brian Reese. Reese was later sentenced to serve 59 years in prison for the shooting. Fishburn has since returned to the force but still suffers from partial paralysis as a result of the shooting.
Now, another metro police officer, David Moore, has also been shot in the head while on duty.
Jason's father, Dennis Fishburn, told Fox59 News after his son was shot, the Moore family reached out to encourage him about Jason's recovery.
In recent years, other officers have been seriously injured and in some cases killed on the job including Officer Michael Antonelli in 2005. He was shot in the face and lost an eye during a traffic stop by Kenya Wright.
In 2004, Officer Jake Laird was killed and four other officers were shot during a shootout. That same year, Butler University Police Officer James David was shot and killed at Hinkle Fieldhouse by a man battling mental illness.
