Authorities said the Clinton Prairie Schools bus overturned at County Road 450 and Colfax Manson Blacktop at approximately 8 a.m. Investigators said they were not sure why the driver lost control.
Three of the four students transported to a hospital by ambulance were taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Frankfort. The fourth student was transported to a Lafayette hospital.
School Superintendent Chris Sampson said 23 others on the school bus were taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
All students were treated and released. One student suffered a broken bone and several others had bumps and bruises.
Sampson said the school practiced an evacuation plan at the beginning of the year, which helped in Friday’s accident. He stated an older student on the bus helped carry younger children out and a parent on the scene assisted as well.
Authorities are still investigating what caused the accident. Sampson said the bus driver was a substitute driver, who had 17 training sessions and supervised trips. Friday was the driver’s sixth trip by herself. The driver’s blood was drawn as procedure.
The driver has been placed on leave until the investigation is complete.
