Diane Ruggiero, a co-executive producer on "Veronica Mars," will continue the girl power theme for her next project.
The writer-producer has a one-hour pilot commitment from the CW to create an action comedy that The Hollywood Reporter describes as "Sex and the City" meets "Batman."
The pilot revolves around two very different but close best friends who experience a mysterious event that blesses them with superpowers. The catch: they have to be together in order for the powers to kick in.
So the BFF stuff explains the "Sex and the City" comparison, but even though "Batman" is a vigilante, he doesn't have any powers beyond his brilliant mind and thirst for revenge. Perhaps a better comparison would be the Hulk, who, under specific conditions (i.e. being very angry), his powers are activated.
Ruggiero has written several "Veronica Mars" episodes, including last week's episode in which the teenage sleuth goes undercover in a sorority to sniff out a campus rapist.
