Pete Rose hit a single to reach 3,000 on May 5, 1978 while playing for the Cincinnati Reds. Charlie Hustle would have been an automatic addition to the Hall of Fame if not for accusations that he gambled on baseball games while playing for and managing the Reds. Despite 3 World Series rings, three batting titles, one MVP award, two Gold Gloves, 17 All Star appearances and the Rookie of the Year Award, Rose is permanently banned from the Hall of Fame. |
